Exercise Physiology

Clinical exercise programs designed and supervised by Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) to help you recover from injury, manage chronic conditions, and perform at your best.

What is Exercise Physiology?

Exercise Physiology is the clinical use of exercise as medicine.

Unlike general fitness training, exercise physiology focuses on safe, evidence-based programs that take into account your medical history, current capacity, and long-term health goals.

Why choose an AEP?
  • Clinical oversight for complex or chronic conditions
  • Programming integrated with your physio and GP
  • Objective measures and gradual load progressions
  • In-clinic, gym-based, or home exercise options

Who is it for?

  • Injury rehab (spine, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle)
  • Chronic conditions: type 2 diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, obesity
  • Pain, de-conditioning or limited mobility
  • Return-to-exercise after surgery or illness
  • Sports performance with medical-grade programming

What do sessions involve?

  • Comprehensive assessment (movement, capacity, risk)
  • Tailored plan with clear progressions
  • Technique coaching & load management
  • Digital home program and review checkpoints
  • Team approach with your physiotherapist & GP

Rebates & Billing

Medicare (GP Chronic Condition Management) — With a GP-led plan, you may be eligible for rebates for up to five allied health sessions per calendar year. For Exercise Physiology, the individual item is MBS 10953 (minimum 20-minute appointment). People with type 2 diabetes may also access an individual assessment and group sessions under the 81110+ item pathway when referred by a GP.

Private Health Insurance — Many funds provide Exercise Physiology rebates under extras cover. Rebates and item codes vary by policy; we can claim on-the-spot via HICAPS and let you know any gap.

We also support Workers Compensation, NDIS and DVA referrals (eligibility applies). For personalised rebate info, contact our reception team—bring your GP referral and health fund details.
